MOTOR SIZE SELECTION GUIDE BLOG

Welcome to Watersnake, your reliable home for electric motors! If you're looking for the perfect bow motor for your boat, you've come to the right place. In this article, we'll explore the key factors to consider to make the best choice.

Boat Size and Weight:

Start by assessing the size and weight of your boat. A bow motor must be powerful enough to maneuver your vessel efficiently. All you need is the weight of your boat at full load and the distance from the bow to the waterline. Then refer to the following Motor Selection Guide to choose the perfect motor for you.

Motor Power:

Determine the required power based on navigational conditions and boat load. A motor that's too weak might struggle in strong currents, while one that's too powerful could be excessive for a lighter boat. Refer to the following Motor Selection Guide to choose the perfect motor for you, based on your boat's weight. The values in the chart refers to a low-current consition.

Battery Type:

Choose the battery that suits your needs. Only deep cycle batteries should be used. These batteries are also known as traction batteries. For Advance and Geo Spot models, LiFeP04 lithium batteries are recommended, which despite having 14.8 Volts can be used. DO NOT use standard batteries (automobile, truck, or marine).

Battery Life:

Battery life is crucial. Evaluate how long you expect to use the motor during a single outing and choose accordingly. Smaller motors (24lb) need about 50 Ah, intermediate motors (34lb-54lb) need 50-100 Ah, and larger motors (65lb-80lb) will need 100-150 Ah. For amateur use of the motor, 100 Ah batteries are recommended. For professional use of the motor, 150 Ah batteries are recommended.
